The low hiss is also does come from both speakers.
Vintage rado loud hum full#
I obviously thanked him for his advise also explaining that I hear nothing until I turn the volume to almost half way point then it is a very very low hiss that you hear in dead silence, it gets more audible the more you head to full volume. As a second check, if it is roughly equal on both channels, then it asks a lot of coincidence for the same fault to appear on both channels. The "rule of thumb" is that if the noise is not or only barely noticeable when listening to music, then it is not a fault. I look forward to hearing from you / your advice. (From what I've also read it is unlikely to be a ground loop issue as the hiss is affected by the volume) Is it worth me having the eq looked at / serviced ? Could this solve the problem in your experience ? I am wondering if this is just part and parcel of these 80's eq's in general as I've read stuf wherby it's said that eq's have a tendency to have some background hum.

I can hear it at about the ten to point and it increases the more I turn the knob beyond that point. This low hiss is more apparent at levels I wouldn't really play my music at. Basically when it is on and I turn the volume up quite high ( without music playing) I can hear a low hiss which increases with volume. Anyway I emailed him as follows responses also attached. Very helpful indeed and has a great reputation. I came across him years ago by recommendation and contacted for some advise then. Hi Mark and others - I emailed a very experienced gentleman who specialises in working on hifi, particularly vintage gear and has done for an age.
